Intro
Well hello there!
So a little basic information about me (boring)….. I’m 18, I’m in my freshman year of college. I’m an aspiring journalist, give me ten years or so. You’ll see my name in the newspaper bylines or maybe I’ll be on t.v.. Look out Diane Sawyer, I’m coming for you! Oh, and I’m totally and completely in love with the sport of roller derby!
How did I get into roller derby?
That’s a very good question me! You’re gonna be such a bad ass journalist some day!
Anyways, my interest in roller derby first sparked from tv. About a year ago I was flipping channels when I saw a bout on TV. I was surprised because I’ve never seen it on TV, so I decided to watch. It was the TXRD (Banked track league in Austin) Putas Del Fuego (My favorite team) and the Rhinestone Cowgirls.
After that bout, I was hooked. I knew that I belonged on that track! I’ve spent that last year being a simple spectator. But no more! I am determined to be on a team!
Why did I make this blog?
To be honest, it’s an assignment for my Mass Communications class. But that doesn’t matter, roller derby has to be the most underrated sport currently. I want to get more girls on the track and more spectators at bouts all over the country!
What exactly is this going to be about?
This blog will follow myself in my first year of roller derby. What it’s like to be the new girl, trying to pick out the best equipment possible, training, try outs and hopefully (fingers crossed) what it is like being on a team, etc.
Are you on a team yet?
No, not yet. I’ll be sure to make that a post when that happens.
Oh my goodness.
So I follow the TXRD tag and found this post! It is kind of amazing already that I produce a television show, but knowing that people see it and it inspires them to try out for roller derby is just so awesome, and heartwarming, and more than I ever could have dreamed of. Love my job.
